Growth is something the Grand Strand is certainly accustomed to. The miles of beaches and
intracoastal waterways that first attracted settlers and vacationers to the area have grown to
become thriving industries fueling tourism. Yet, as we enter a new decade, it is apparent the
tides are turning and our once little beach town is rapidly evolving into a metropolitan
region poised for a bright future.

As our region continues to dominate the East Coast in population growth, the expanding
numbers of permanent year-round residents have led to the development of our
infrastructure and new home communities which has created a prime location for
manufacturers and large industries to relocate their businesses. We also continue to see a
rise in the number of national retailers investing in the area, often opening multiple
locations along the 60-mile stretch of the Grand Strand, while community investors are
working to ensure local businesses also stay relevant on the scene.

It’s an exciting time full of possibility for a strong future! Rather than focusing on the current
economic boost, our cities are concentrating on revitalization efforts that will develop a
landscape to support the families who’ll live here for generations.
